Chiropractic is a health-care profession, which treats and manages conditions that are due to problems with the joints, ligaments, tendons and nerves; especially those related to the spine.

What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractors use safe manual therapy methods of treatment. One of the main tools Chiropractors use is a gentle, specific spinal manipulation to free joints in the spine and other areas of the body that are not moving properly. Other tools include massage, stretching, ice/heat and acupuncture.

What Can I Expect?

Your first visit will consist of taking a history of your complaint and a specific examination using functional, neurological and orthopaedic tests to assess your muscles, bones, joints and nerve supply that support your body. We will formulate a management plan together for your condition. If after the consultation it is determined that we cannot help you, we will use our extensive network of professional contacts to find the appropriate practitioner for you.

We use a variety of methods to help patients manage their conditions. These vary from Chiropractic manipulation, acupuncture, massage, stretching, taping and advice on posture, exercise, nutrition and other lifestyle factors Different people and different conditions will require different treatment methods, so we will specifically tailor your management to your needs using some of the tools listed.

Short-term, we work together to give you symptom relief using specific treatment for you and self-care.

Long term, we address the cause of your symptoms and develop a preventative plan of management through your assessment of your gait, posture, movement patterns and muscle activation. The results of this assessment will help formulate a personalised exercise plan for you that will fit around your work, home life, current exercise and other activities.

Why not visit our in-house Chiropractor, Chris Jolliffe?

About Chris Jolliffe

As an avid gym user and class goer, Chris decided that he wanted to follow his passions in the fitness industry and trained as a personal trainer. He spent 10 years in this industry as a Personal Trainer and Studio Instructor, specialising in exercise referral, ante and post natal, older adults, mental health, back care and Pilates. This allowed him to work with specific populations and conditions, and to work closer with Chiropractors and Physiotherapists. He worked in established health clubs including Bannatyne's Health Clubs, Virgin Active, DW Fitness, Fitness First as a studio instructor, and at Bannatyne's Health Club as a senior fitness instructor and studio co-ordinator.

Chris decided to train as a Chiropractor and graduated with distinction after spending four years at the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic, which is the world's leading Chiropractic training faculty. He undertook further courses to improve his skills, including rehabilitation for the back, gait analysis, dry needling, clinical plyometrics and power taping. Whilst studying he continued to teach exercise classes and clients, alongside working as a rehabilitation supervisor at the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic Clinic.

Chris has experience in working with all walks of life; from a seven day old baby to senior adults, and from competitive athletes to patients that just want to have better function. He believes in working holistically with the patient, not just treating the symptoms, but treating the cause too- advising on nutrition, exercise and other lifestyle factors to gain long term results. As he has worked within the fitness industry for over ten years, he has seen a myriad of conditions and how they can affect movement and function, and has a huge passion for rehabilitation work.

"I was delighted to be able to join the team at Urban Health and Fitness, who work on the same philosophies and have a fantastic passion for health and fitness"

Chris Jolliffe (Doctor of Chiropractic) MChiro, BSc (Hons), PGCert

Here Is what Chris's clients say

“Chris has considerable knowledge & skills to accurately diagnose the root cause of the problem & he uses a wide range of techniques to return the body to flexibility & mobility. I left his session with a clear list of personalised, written instructions & pictorial exercises to continue enhancing my treatment at home. Chris delivers all this in a friendly, helpful & professional manner & given what he achieves in a half hour session, I would say he is excellent value for money & I highly recommend him to others.”
Susan Gill (retired Psychotherapist) Christchurch

“I have undertaken several sessions with Chris, and now working on a maintenance regime for my back and shoulder pain. His treatments including chiropractic, massage and acupuncture have all been undertaken with excellent results, and in a very professional, gentle manner – I would have no hesitation in recommending Chris Joliffe”
Julie Allen

"I have recently completed a course of chiropractic treatment from Chris Jolliffe and found it both beneficial and enjoyable. My treatment comprised of detailed exercises explained and demonstrated on me, acupuncture and discussion pertaining to my particular problem. I would not hesitate to recommend Mr Jolliffe's chiropractic skills"
Angela Long

“The Chiropractic Treatment Plan that Chris personalised to my individual needs has been very beneficial to my health and general wellbeing. The emphasis has shifted from predominantly treatment room based care to mainly self management. This has been achieved within quite a reasonable timeframe. Coupled with attending Pilate classes also conducted by Chris, my neck, shoulder and head tension problems have improved significantly. Chris has been approachable, helpful, friendly and professional at all times. I would strongly recommend him.”
Diane Flamers, Christchurch, PgCert HRM, BSc (Hons) Psychology, MBPsS

“I have been using chiropractors since the age of 16 relatively regularly (I am now 39). Over this time I have visited many different people for treatments. Although I have been satisfied with most of the practitioners, Chris has been the only one who has actually set out a treatment plan and actually given me stretches and strengthening exercises to do at home to help my problems long term and prevent further issues. My neck is the best it's been in years and after a treatment with Chris, I feel lighter and more aligned. I would wholeheartedly recommend this lovely man to anyone who requires treatment.”

“After struggling for a number of months with lower back problems the pain became so bad that I was unable to work and needed to seek professional help. Chris was recommend by a friend. The process began with an incredibly thorough assessment which immediately identified the problem areas, and I noticed an amazing difference after the very first adjustment. Since starting a course of treatments with Chris I am virtually pain free. The improvement in my flexibility and core strength is such that I am back at work and have also been able to start running again.”
Terry Y (Funeral Director)

"I made an appointment to see Chris after suffering with a stiff neck and general discomfort in my lower back. Having previously used chiropractors for back problems I thought I knew what to expect. I was more than presently surprised to discover that Chris combined normal chiropractic adjustments, massage and acupuncture with a program of exercises designed to prevent my issues recurring."
Mr M.A.J. Pashley BEng.

“As a retired General Practitioner I followed my wife in visiting Chris Jolliffe. I have never had a better introduction to exercise and an extremely thorough examination. He really is an expert.” CKH

“Having injured my back in 2014, I initially visited Chris weekly. His diagnosis and treatment proved to be spot on. He wrote to my G.P. requesting I be referred to hospital which moved treatment on. The exercise programme he set, his back care classes and treatment have been a major part in my recovery.”
Mr D. M.

“I have had chiropractic treatment with Chris since January 2015, from the first treatment his holistic approach has been perfect. The techniques and speed he uses to adjust and my first experience of dry needling along with a comprehensive home exercise program have all contributed to my successful triathlon and distance running season. The hip condition he has recently diagnosed has been a massive concern, he has used his connections with the AECC for ultra sound and was quick to advise my GP with the results. Chris is always so positive and explains things well, I will certainly continue treatment and recommend him to others.”
